After a series of CT Scans and visits with my cancer Dr. it was determined that the cancer drug I was taking, Tarceva, was not working. The cancer cells in my lungs were still growing, slowly, and more cells were identified. In addition 2 other cancer lesions were found in my abdomen and in my back close to my kidney. This is why they stopped Tarceva!
Next steps are that I have entered the Clinical Trial phase of my treatment and last week was approved to enter this Clinical Trial. There are approximately 30 people in this study which takes place at the Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta. I will start this process the week of September 29, a Monday. I will be taking 2 drugs, one oral and one by injection. The injection drug, BORTZOMIB, will be taken weekly and the oral drug, SUNITINIB will be taken daily. Both of these drugs will be administered for a 4 week period followed by a 14 day rest. This process will continue for a period of 24 weeks and with each 4 week session the doses of each drug will be increased. After each week CT Scans will be taken to check the progress and hopefully decrease in my cancer cells in my lungs.
Keep praying and Margaret and I will keep you updated on the progress of this Clinical Trial. We love you all! Margaret & Gene"
