Thanksgiving 2009 (Pops & Nano)

This year for Thanksgiving Pops and Nano were fortunate enough to have family from Minnesota come down for a visit. Aunt Kathryn, Uncle Jerry, Uncle Bob and Aunt Donna were all there! It was a big fun family day for them followed by many other great times making memories. We wish we could have joined them. Here are some pics from their visit.

Dr Report and Updates

Well, today Pops (& Nano) went to the Dr to review his cat scans and bloodwork he had done last week. Today was not a good day. As we suspected from the amount of pain Pops has been in over the last month or so, the clinical trial he is on is not working. They stopped the clinical trial drugs and put him on morphine for the pain. The oxycodone was not touching the pain he has been having, especially in his lower back. They found more leisions throughout his body, in his shoulder and more on his liver and the area causing him the most pain, his pelvic area. He has been having trouble walking and even sitting in certain positions over the last few weeks. Hopefully the morphine will help with the pain. In addition to the drug therapy they will also be doing a round (I think 10 sessions) of radiation to his pelvic/lower back region to help with the pain. They say that this radiation should take care of 80% of the pain he has been experiencing in his lower back which will help allow him to walk without so much pain. They wrote him a prescription for a new medical chair for the house to help with his comfort also.

While this is all happening to fast it's so hard to process this information... Nano and Pops are handling this so well and still remain positive. The Drs will continue to look for clinical trials for Pops. They also gave him a timeframe for life expectancy if he does not find any drugs (clinical trials) to fight his cancer. They opted not to tell me this information when we were 'skyping' tonight since Andres was not home yet and they wanted him to be home when they told me this information... this is not good news. Honestly, I would rather not know. I just don't want him in pain and suffering. I (we) am praying for more time and new trials with new drugs to fight this cancer. I have hope, but I can see how devistating cancer is. I will update with more information as I get it. I wish I had better news today.
